Bible -
God's Infallible Direction
The most important
thing about any church is what it believes. We believe the Bible
to be infallible - 'all Scripture is given by inspiration of God'
(2 Tim. 3:16) - and as such it teaches us what we are to believe
concerning God and what duty He requires of us (John 5:39; Eccles.
12:13). Especially, the Bible tells us how we may be saved from
our sins, and become Christians.
God - Great
and Gloriously Holy
God, who is
great and glorious, the sustainer and absolute ruler of the world,
before whom the sinless angels cover their faces and cry, 'Holy,
Holy, Holy,' is so pure that He cannot look upon sin and iniquity
(Isa.6:3; Hab.1:13). Man, who was created in God's image (true
knowledge, righteousness, and holiness), was made to glorify God
and enjoy Him forever.
Man - a
Hell-deserving Sinner
The devil
tempted our first parents to sin against God. The Fall had an
effect on the entire human race - 'by one man's disobedience many
were made sinners,' so that in Adam all die (Rom.5:19; 1 Cor.
15:22). We deserve punishment in Hell for our sins. Because of
our fallen, sinful nature we cannot do anything to deliver ourselves:
not only our sins but 'all our righteousnesses are filthy rags'
in God's sight (Isa. 64:6).
Christ
- God's Sacrifice
God was pleased
to send His eternal Son, Jesus Christ the righteous, into the
world to save His people from their sins. The Gospel is the good
news of God's provision of Christ, and His sacrifice on the cross
as a satisfaction of Divine justice.
Salvation
- God's Way
We are told,
'Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved' (Acts
16:31). This means, realizing we are sinners, we turn to Christ
acknowledging Him as our only Saviour, which true faith will lead
us to repentance (the sorrow and forsaking of sin).
'For God
so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever
believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life'
-
(John 3:16)
